CLAIRE BALL

Claire Ball (b. 1992, Virginia) lives and works in Philadelphia. She earned her Certificate from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where she was awarded the Women’s Board Travel Scholarship and the Cantor scholarship. In 2017, she participated in the inaugural year of the Currents Residency in Philadelphia. Currently, she is pursuing a joint degree in Fine Arts and Classical Literature at the University of Pennsylvania.

Drawing from her research in Greek and Latin poetry and drama Claire explore themes of gender, history, myth and storytelling in her work. Her large scale pieces are often sculptural and take shape through processes of printmaking, painting, dyeing, drawing and embroidery. Employing a variety of materials and methods her work pushes the boundaries between fine art and artisanry while complicating our conceptions of known narratives or histories.
