KAITLYN BASTA

Originally from Minneapolis, MN, Kaitlyn Basta (b. 1993, South Dakota) is a painter, sculptor, and installation artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2016. At PAFA, she was awarded the Gross McLeaf Gallery Prize for excellence in the style of realism, the Simone C. Titone Classical Drawing Prize, the Sylvia G. Wexler Memorial Award of the Fellowship Juried Prizes for an outstanding work, twice consecutive recipient of the Mabel Wilson Woodrow Memorial Award, and the First Prize for Susan MacDowell Eakins Figure Painting Competition. Basta has exhibited in several group exhibitions, including Taxonomy at Works on Paper Gallery, Impossible Archive at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, and It is Here, It is New, I Am at Pentimenti Gallery. She was an Alumni Studio Fellow recipient at the Academy in 2017, and in 2019 she was a resident fine artist at the Vermont Studio Center. Basta was a Founder, lead organizer, and lead curator of The Codex Project, which held its first exhibition in early 2020 at Works on Paper Gallery.
