MOSTAFA DARWISH
Mostafa Darwish immigrated to the United States from Egypt and became a citizen in 2013. He graduated in 2016 from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a Bachelor and Certificate of Fine Arts in Painting. There, he was distinguished with the Faculty Award for outstanding growth and community involvement, Charles Toppan Drawing Award, and August Cook Prize award for Figurative Drawing. Among other achievements, He is an awardee of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant. Mostafa displayed with and curated multiple emerging artist and group exhibitions, most recently he was a curator and a founder of The Codex Project in Philadelphia in 2020. In 2018 he was featured in a publication by WHYY public media for one of his curatorial projects We Got Used to New Us in Philadelphia. Mostafa is also a recent resident at Wassaic Project Residency in September 2019, and the Vermont Studio Center in 2018. Mostafa’s current work focuses on bringing his own experience of a different culture and exposure into a western environment, contrasting both East and West together to draw attention to political, cultural and societal dissidence. Mostafa’s mediums vary from experimental gouache and inks on paper, to academic and classical oil paintings on canvas.
